The long awaited football season is finally here, much to everyone’s excitement. Ranked 20th in the state and first in the district, Seminole High School (SHS)’s football team is ready to come back better than ever.
The Seminole football team is the pride of Seminole, and has gone through numerous matches last year, most of which they came out on top. Barely missing making playoffs last year, now they’re even more prepared to win for Seminole.
Starting off strong, the Seminole football team is going against Robinson High School, who is coming all the way from Tampa. The game will occur in our home court, and will start around 7 P.M and go on for about two and a half hours. There will be a concession stand outside the field, where most students go during halftime.
Students usually wear black and orange to represent their school, and some even go as far as to cover themselves in face paint. This year, like every year, the first game’s theme is “aloha.” Floral crowns and Hawaiian outfits are the main staple for this theme. Everyone likes to come up with the craziest outfits and hairdos to show off their support for the team.
The football team has trained relentlessly to ensure they’re on their top game. D’Shawn Watkins, a junior on the varsity football team who plays as a runner back and wide receiver, states that he’s “ready to compete and the team is working extremely hard to win.” The football team looks forward to the game to show off their skills that they have worked extremely hard on. The varsity team has gone out of their way with many out of school practices to better their skills. Last year, they won many exciting matches, ending it off to be a great football season.
The football games are not only important to the team but also mean something to the students too. A sophomore in IB, Karelina Veira, exclaims that she’s “most excited for the drumming and enjoys dancing to it, and of course, the game.” During halftime, the Seminole band plays while students dance or get snacks. The drumming team has worked exceptionally hard and are extremely excited to perform at the Seminole game.
Additionally, many students like to meet up before the football game to get ready and go there together. Creating a core memory, every grade, from the freshmen to the seniors are excited to make new memories with their friends. The freshmen can’t wait to get their first taste of the Seminole football season, and for the seniors, it’s a bittersweet experience, as it’s the last Aloha game they will attend as a student.
Students are not only excited for the game but for the preparation of it too. To raise the spirit and show our support, everyone comes together to watch the pep rally. The pep rally includes dances from our phenomenal dance team known as the Dazzlers. The football team will also make an appearance to witness the vast amount of support they get. This year, the pep rally will occur during lunch, so make sure you’re outside to witness and support Seminole!
Overall, the football team, band members, cheerleaders, and workers have all worked relentlessly to make sure the football game goes off without a hitch. The students are enthusiastically waiting for the football game and can’t wait to go. It’s a night where they let go of their academics and go to show support for their school. The overflowing crowds, cheers, outfits, and face paint all make up the perfect Friday night.
