On April 6, 2023 the Instagram for Barbie, posted the official cast list after a long awaited announcement. With Margot Robbie starring as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken Carson, fans are overwhelmed and excited to see the movie come together. More cast including Dame Helen Mirren, as the narrator, Will Ferrell as a company CEO, Michael Cera as Allen, Emerald Fennell as Midge, and various other characters. What surprises many is the numerous Barbies and Kens within the movie. Well known stars such as Dua Lipa and Simu Liu are playing side Barbies and Kens and won’t necessarily be the ‘stars’ of the movie which makes it more popular and intriguing Director Greta Gerwig, who is also known for being an actor and screenwriter, plans to release the Barbie movie on July 21, 2023. The premise of the movie is: “a doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world” (IMBd). However, Ryan Gosling, aka Ken Carson, says to expect the unexpected. He also adds that whatever one is expecting for the movie, think the opposite. As Barbie is finally coming to theaters, actors claim the movie is amazing and the filming environment is the best it has been in a while. Fans on blogs and other internet sharing sites share that Barbieland is a very vibrant world full of dolls like Barbie and Ken. As many already know, Ken is obsessed with Barbie and loves her in every way. Ken follows Barbie to the real world and the Company CEO, Will Ferrell, goes after the dynamic duo to make peace again within the magical world. The pair’s leaving causes an imbalance within Barbieland and Ferrell needs to bring them back to fix their world. Many students are hoping to get a chance to see the movie the day it comes out, even though there is another movie coming out the same day. 

Seminole High School (SHS) student, Saifan Chowdhury, an IB sophomore, shares his thoughts on the new Barbie movie: “I am so excited for the movie. I loved all of the other movies Barbie has made so far. I hope to see a lot of new characters and a new plot. I like Barbie but the plot of a lot of them are similar. I know that this is going to be a different type of Barbie movie but either way, a lot of them are cliche. Overall I just hope the movie is as good as everything is making it out to be.”

Liyana Ahmed, shares her feelings on the new movie. “Oh my goodness I love Barbie so much and I cannot wait to see her on the big screen. I love watching her older movies because they make me feel like a little kid and It just brings back a lot of good memories. I really hope they are not over hyping the movie because I have not been this excited for a kids movie in a long time. I am also excited to see how Ryaln Gosling acts because personally, I do not really think he fits the role and they could have done better, but he is a good, talented actor so I think he will be able to pull it off.” 

As a whole, students and many fans are excited to see the new Barbie movie in theaters in the near future. As the time comes closer many are waiting in eager to get in there and see it. Before too long SHS students will be lined up outside the theaters to see it.
