Mrs. Kiersten Bordner has been named the 2017-18 Seminole High School Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Bordner was recognized today alongside her fellow Teacher of the Year nominees, Maureen Maguire and Andrea Newhouse.

Mrs. Bordner has been teaching for several years and is proud to call Seminole home.

She currently teaches IB freshman English, Humanities, and AP Art History, and therefore has shaped the education of diverse students from all over the school. Among IB students, she is beloved for her role as Beta Chi coordinator.

Still, it came as a surprise to Mrs. Bordner when administrators and cameras flooded her room in fourth period. She said she was speechless when she found out that she was the Teacher of the Year.

“I have no words,” Mrs. Bordner told the admiring crowd upon hearing the announcement. “It means so much to me that other teachers recognized me for this, I’m so happy. Thank you so much.”

The honor did not come as a surprise to her students, many of whom describe her to be a positive influence and outstanding educator in their high school careers.

“Mrs. Bordner is really nice and she is definitely my favorite teacher,” said freshman Divij Lankalapalli, who got to witness the crowning moment in fourth period. “She has a lot of patience and does what it takes to help the students. Our class’s reaction to Mrs. Bordner winning the award shows how much her students really love her.”

The Seminole staff is proud to have Mrs. Bordner at our school and congratulates her on her well-deserved achievement.
