Part of the new worldly image is a skinnier figure: both for males and for females. While this is ironic, seeing as rates of obesity are rising, some celebrities struggle with keeping up their appearance. Various diets are around that includes an initiation fee and the price of meals for both celebs and ordinary people.
Jenny Craig is a diet plan that includes a monthly fee, food cost, and has in store weight loss consultants. Jason Alexander, or George Costanza from Seinfeld, is a spokesperson. A commercial that promoted gender diversity used the slogan “Jen works for men.” Indeed, Alexander lost about 30 pounds on the diet. Sophomore Stefan Williams stated, “A male spokesperson would not influence me because the ads […] would just annoy me.”
Jennifer Hudson lost about 80 pounds while on Weight Watchers. Her weight has been a struggle for a long time but she lost 60 pounds for her American Idol audition, gained 20 back for Dream Girls, and then gained 35 pounds after the birth of her son. With Weight Watchers, a weight loss manager helped her manage her eating habits. Exercising was the last step that left has her feeling slimmer in size zero jeans.
Gastric bypass surgery is a procedure that shrinks the stomach to allow less food to be eaten and therefore aids in weight loss. Randy Jackson, a diabetic, took this route in the early 2000s, losing over 100 pounds. While gastric bypass is not for everyone, such as Sharon Osbourne who reversed her surgery because of overeating, Jackson used the procedure to become a healthier person with controlled diabetes.
Jersey Shore’s Ronnie Ortiz Magro was the spokesperson for a Xenadrine commercial along with other people who have gotten results from the supplement. The supplement, matched with good exercise and a well balanced diet, can show a slimmer, more built figure. The secret is many active ingredients which are used to speed up the metabolisms of its users. This process is supposed to provide quick weight loss, but excercise is also required for results.
Some celebrities can sometimes disappear for a while and then make a dramatic re-appearance to show off their new weight loss. Freshman Victoria Whitaker stated, “They [celebrities] all look good but what they don’t tell you is that you still have to exercise and eat a balanced diet in order to lose weight.” Another SHS student, Anne Christine Surin a sophomore, said “[diet plans] look like they could be successful and helpful but not effective if you do not work out on the side.”
Diets may not be for everyone, but there are plenty of options available for everyone. Eating healthy, portion control, and exercising should be utilized and enforced before resulting to risky procedures such as gastric bypass or liposuction.
