A famous person once said, “Positivity is the light to life.” This statement is now being proven by a locally well-known leader, Dr. Connie Collins.
Branching out from her current job as Seminole’s principal, Dr. Collins is beginning to write her first self-help novel. The book will allegedly focus on motivating readers and discovering a positive environment within one’s self.
This idea was developed when Collins began encouraging her students on the news with positive comments and quotes from distinguished figures.
“I decided that this was a great idea from all the positive feedback I received from both students and administrators alike,” Dr. Collins said. “I honestly think this will be a great way to reach others through my words and the message to stay strong and overcome any obstacles that they have in their lives.”
Students have accepted and applied these messages to their everyday life. Seminole has noticed an improvement in grade averages with the messages, with grades becoming higher after Dr. Collins began administering her messages of self-motivation. Test scores have also gone up, with SAT scores rising slightly above the normal average.
“It really is a great thing to hear every week,” said junior Alex Ramen. “Listening to someone telling you to push ahead and do your best is something everybody needs.”
Oprah inspired Dr. Collins book’s topic and her methods of self-help. Dr. Collins has stated that she admires Oprah on multiple occasions, describing her as a “strong, successful woman.”
Dr. Collins expressed, “Oprah Winfrey is and will always be one of my greatest idols. She has gone through so much and she always seems to stay happy. The way she connects to her audience through positivity is remarkable, and I would like to follow in her footsteps.”
The proceeds of the book will go to the children in need of assistance in rural Kenya, and it’s scheduled to be published in the winter of 2015. Dr. Collins hopes that Seminole students and alumni will read and enjoy her novel.
Dr. Collins stated, “I hope the student body and the community of Sanford receives my book well. I can’t wait for positivity to reach out through my writing!”
