Everybody’s been there, buying twenty dollars’ worth of cookies that won’t be eaten just to help a kid’s cause. But aren’t there other, more interesting and effective ways to raise money for an organization than selling food?
Of course, selling anything for a club or sport isn’t the easiest thing to do, but in the end, it all proceeds to what that person loves. However, it can become even more frustrating to sell the product when so many other people are selling it as well. Now is the time to step up and make other more creative ways to sell things!
While food does usually succeed in the end, there are plenty of other ways to help the club that needs support. For example, hosting an event that people are interested in may draw lots of attention, so to pay it forward towards the club, ask them to pay for tickets to support it! That right there lets people enjoy something, and not feel guilty if they don’t buy it. For example, when little girls ask you to buy their Girl Scout cookies, you don’t want to make them feel bad, so you buy them.
Freshman Austin Metzger agreed and said “Events like movie nights and stuff could help by selling tickets.”
Another effective way to raise money would be to help others out, such as having a car wash or a dog walking business. By having these, people feel obligated to give you money because you helped them with something, and they’d feel as if they needed to give you something in return for your work.
Sophomore Andrea Merea also agreed by saying “Having a car wash would definitely help [in terms of fundraising].”
But besides these two ways, there are plenty more interesting and fun ways to sell things for a club. For example, giving a piece of that club’s merchandise away in exchange for cash is always a nice thing to do. When that person buys from the organization, they’ll feel as if they really helped when they get a piece of that club thrown back to them.
However, sophomore Brandon Chin has another great way to sell things and said “I think if you sell crafts people will respond better to them, since they’re homemade.”
Frankly, selling crafts is becoming one of the hottest new ways to fundraise, according to kintera.org. People who buy from the sellers feel as if they’re closer with them already, since the item sold to them was from the club and not some cheap store.
Fundraising may not be so successful at first, but no one should ever give up hope. There are plenty of other unique ways out there to sell, and profits will come flying through the door
