The Dazzlers have a stellar reputation at SHS, known for their hard work and graceful dancing. One Varsity Dazzler, however, is a freshman. Elle Taylor, a Health Academy student, has had her sights set on being a Dazzler for years. Now, that dream has become a reality.

Taylor has been attending a dance studio for about 13 years, starting when she was two years old. Her mother, a former cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins,  encouraged her to pursue this path. Taylor’s cousin, a dancer, was also an inspiration, leading to Taylor’s interest with the art and her participation in dance.

“I’ve always had a dream of being on a dance team in high school. After watching [the Dazzlers] compete at a competition I went to a couple years ago, I’ve been striving to make the team,” said Taylor.

To keep up with her academics, other school clubs, and being a Dazzler, Taylor said that time management has been a crucial skill. Dazzlers have multiple practices a week, and during competition season, it can be hectic for many. Regardless, it is a rewarding experience to Taylor.

“My favorite part of being a Dazzler is the unbreakable bond between the team and being able to compete with such hardworking and determined people,” said Taylor.

Recently, the Dazzlers competed in the Universal Dance Association (UDA) national competition. They placed seventh in the Large Varsity Jazz Finals and won first place in the Varsity High Kick Finals.

“Winning nationals was surreal. I was incredibly proud of my team and all of the hard work we’ve all put in. All the blood, sweat, and tears brought us to this moment and I couldn’t be more thankful to have such an amazing and determined team,” said Taylor.

After graduating from high school, Taylor plans on going to college and eventually pursuing a medical career. She also hopes to be a dancer on her college dance team.

For Taylor, being a Dazzler is the perfect outlet for those passionate about the dance form. She advises others to enter with a positive mindset, despite how frightening it may be at first. Being a part of the award-winning dance team is centered around the bond between teammates, and is worth the struggle.

“Dazzlers has taught me so much more than just dance. It’s taught me how to prioritize family, school and Dazzlers. It’s also taught me what it means to be a part of a true team and that no matter what happens you have a whole group who’ll support you always,” said Taylor.
