Not only is junior Burgundy Walters a phenomenal volleyball player, she is also the captain of Seminole’s varsity volleyball team. She has been playing since she was eleven, and is already committed to play college volleyball at Jacksonville University.
Walters got her start in gymnastics, but was forced to quit due to a major injury.
“I tried basketball first,” Walters said. “I did not like it so my dad took me to a club tryout at Mojo and it stuck.”
She got into volleyball when coach Charlie Negron of Mojo Volleyball Club took her on as a newbie. This undertaking was life-changing for Walters.
Walters said, “I would not be here today without all the lessons, yelling, and tears he and I had together.”
Five years later, she continues to use her impressive height to dominate the court as a middle blocker, a skill she hopes to take to college and beyond.
“My biggest achievement is committing to Jacksonville University on a full ride,” Walters said. “For me, that is proof that I’m doing my job and someone sees something in me that they want to help improve.”
