On the fourth Friday of every month, Downtown Sanford invites the community to enjoy their art show. It displays new artists and allows people from all over Sanford to experience a little culture. Each month has a different theme. And this month’s theme is “People”. The art at this event tends to focus on Florida wildlife and the people living there, so it’s safe to assume that the next art walk will feature a lot of Floridians!
Junior Anjali Bhatt said, “They’re fun and creative especially for people who enjoy artwork. They’re unique because you never know what you’ll see or discover. You also get to see and learn about new things and different styles of artwork”
Another great part of attending the art walk is that there is an opportunity to earn extra credit. Asking a teacher whether or not extra credit can be earned from attending an event said and subsequently writing a critique is a smart idea. Some teachers utilize this now.
Sophomore Michael Votino said, “I was at it once, for an extra credit project for English.” Even though he gained extra points, “[His] favorite part was seeing all the types of art and the feeling of the city alive at night.”
Others students gather a group of friends and explore the art that downtown Sanford has to offer in regards of art.
Junior Claire Hoppen said, “They had every type of art form sculptures made from license plate to portraits of Florida wildlife. It was a really good experience to see a lot of different art and there were a lot of people around, too.”
The art walk provides a space where people can walk around and absorb all of the work Sanford’s artists have to offer. After the art walk, feel free to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants in the area. The next art walk is May 24, 2013, so be sure to attend this exciting event!
