Arguably, the most popular event of the year is back, homecoming! Along with homecoming comes the famed Homecoming Spirit Week. This week is an exciting time where students show their school pride and creativity by dressing up according to homecoming related themes each day this week.
Monday: Man on the Moon
On Monday, students came decked in red, white, and blue to show their American pride. The theme for this day was “Man on the Moon,” a nod to the patriotic nature of space exploration.
Many students wore stars and stripes, while others dressed as astronauts. The hallways were full of enthusiasm as everyone showed their support and school spirit. Everywhere you looked, bright colors filled the hallway as our school became one big American Flag!
Tuesday: Decades Day
Continuing the week, with Tuesday’s theme “Blast From The Past”. On this day, everyone dressed according to their assigned decade. Freshman repped the 70’s, sophomores the 80’s, juniors the 90’s and the seniors dressed up in 2000’s attire
Freshmen embrace the vibes of the 1970s, with flared pants, tie-dye shirts, and peace signs. Sophomores went bold with their 1980s looks, rocking neon colors, big hair, and fanny packs. Juniors take it back to the 1990s with oversized flannels and baggy jeans, creating an iconic look. And seniors round things out with early 2000s fashion, complete with low-rise jeans, and tracksuits, celebrating the nostalgia of the 200’s. This fun theme brought students together, offering a chance to showcase creativity while celebrating the iconic fashion of past decades.
Wednesday: Superheros vs Superstars
On Day 3 of Homecoming Spirit Week, the school came alive with students dressed as their favorite superheroes and celebrities for the “Super vs Superstars” theme. The halls were filled with capes, masks, and iconic outfits, as some channeled Marvel and DC heroes, while others embraced their favorite celebrities. From Iron Man to Adam Sandler, to some simply just wearing a cape, students showcased their creativity, with some even blending the themes by dressing as superhero-inspired celebrities. This theme added a fun dynamic to the week, giving everyone the chance to represent their idols.
Thursday: Rhyme without Reason
Day 4 featured the social media famous theme, “Rhyme Without Reason.” Students paired up and dressed in outfits that rhymed but had no logical connection, creating a fun and comical atmosphere. From “tennis pro and frat bro” to “rapper and napper,” Seminole High School (SHS) was filled with imaginative, mismatched costumes that made everyone laugh. Evaleena Kabarnacius, a health academy junior, talked about her and her partner’s costume for the Rhyme without Reason theme. “Me and my friend dressed up as dress to impress and princess,” Kabarnacius said. “There’s a certain iconic character from the game so I dressed as her and I wore a white shirt and white pants. In the game you also rate people, so I held up a card that had 5 stars on it as well. This was definitely my favorite theme of the week. It was so fun to see everyone’s rhymes!” Rhyme without reason seemed to be a fan favorite amongst our SHS students.
Friday: Into the Bokeyverse
To wrap up the week, the final day of Homecoming Spirit Week was all about school pride, with students dressed head-to-toe in the Seminoles’ colors of orange and black for the theme “Into the Bokeyverse”. Students dressed up in bright orange shirts, black accessories, and face paint as everyone came together to show their support for the school’s team. Excitement filled the air as students prepared for the big game and pep rally later in the day. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable week and build energy for the Homecoming dance tomorrow night.
As the seniors bid farewell to their final Hoco week, feelings of nostalgia flow as they reflect on the years before/. Buzzing with creativity, SHS halls were decked and another successful Hoco in the books. Now, students wait for the Hoco Game win, go Noles!
