Something is brewing, and it is not coffee!
In the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Milton has reached a category five, sending Florida into emergency conditions. This comes just after another hurricane hit, causing flood and havoc throughout the southeast. Now Florida prepares to undergo another natural disaster with flooding already starting because the rain never seems to stop.
As some Floridans evacuate their home, places such as Seminole High School (SHS) work to become shelter zones. Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) has released a statement for the upcoming week with Tuesday being an early release schedule with no after school activities. Wednesday and Thursday school will be closed for the storm and Friday has not been cancelled yet but will be closely monitored.
Students at SHS specifically are left wondering whether or not exams will continue. October 7th through 10th were supposed to be final nine week exams, but Hurricane Milton has other plans. No information has been released about the rescheduling for exams but the Seminole Times will be monitoring the situation and updating as more information is shared.
For now, make sure to stay safe and stock up on supplies such as water, dry foods, and flashlights. Wishing everyone the best during this time and make sure to stay dry!
UPDATE NUMER 1:
Today it was announced that Friday, if students return to school, will be a straight seven bell schedule. Exams will continue next week with Tuesday starting off with an even bell schedule and exams for period 2 and 6. On Thursday, exams will be 3 and 7, and Friday will end with 4th period. Due to this schedule change, the first nine weeks will be extended and grades will finalized next week.

UPDATE NUMBER 2:
Milton has now finished landfall as citizens across Florida work to restore and clean up their homes. For SCPS, schools will reopen on Tuesday, October 15th. Additionally, many Florida colleges have moved their Early Application (EA) dates to be later to take into account hurricane damages. University of Central Florida has moved their EA submission deadline to October 22nd, with Florida State University (FSU) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) moving theirs to November 1st. Other universities such as University of Florida (UF) already had later dates from the start so they will not be moving theirs.
Make sure to be prepared for exams that begin on Tuesday. The schedule is as the following:
Monday: No school, teacher work day
Tuesday: Even schedule with testing during 2nd and 6th period
Wednesday: Regular schedule and no exams
Thursday: Odd schedule with testing during 3rd and 7th
Friday: Even schedule with testing during 4th
We hope everyone stayed safe during the storm and we shall see you back at school on Tuesday!
