INTERNSHIP EXPO BROADENS STUDENT INTERESTS
October 30, 2015
The Internship Expo returned to the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary on Wednesday, October 28 to provide juniors and seniors with an opportunity to look into internships. At the event, companies specializing in various fields were available to answer questions and allow students to apply for spring internships.
Junior Sagrario Suarez says, “I think it’s important that students, mainly juniors and seniors, attend the internship expo because it provides [them] with the chance to explore various career fields and to develop a better work ethic.”
Companies associated with accounting, finance, sales, marketing, construction, engineering, and informational technology were at the expo to offer positions for spring internships, which take place around January 20 through May 13, 2017. However, some will last longer than others. Depending on the company, internships may be paid or provide high school credit.
Before attending the event, senior Nazir Crump believed that it would aid in future career opportunities.
“I think the [internship expo] will be beneficial in that there will be many companies there that I will be able to ask questions and determine what they are looking for in an employee, so I can apply it to my life now in preparation for a career,” says Crump.
At the Expo, companies had set up tables with information regarding each internship that is offered. This gave students a chance to talk with representatives from various companies and interactively learn about the opportunities that are available. Attire was business casual, and students were expected to bring a resume with them.
Junior Pareena Sharma says, “The Expo helped me a lot, because it gave me several opportunities to work with local companies in Seminole County and establish connections with other businesses.”
There will be several more Internship Expos held throughout the 2015-16 school year. There is no cost of attendance, however students have to register in advance.
