The Peer Inclusion Team (P.I.T. Crew) is seeking out students who have an interest in helping others. P.I.T. Crew is an elective course that’s new to campus, and they need members for the Spring 2025 term.
Both Mrs. Lisa Sica and Dr. Rebecca Chase are committed to developing this program and although it is their first year they hope to “instill in students that when students see learning through the lens of partnership, they have equal stakes in the learning process, better understand human relationships, and come to view the world in new ways”. Truly emphasizing the importance of this program within the student body.
P.I.T. Crew is a part of the Florida’s Inclusion Network’s mission to offer “academic, social, and interpersonal benefits to students with and without disabilities across the school campus”. Ultimately, aiming for inclusion within students with and without disabilities. This elective course allows for students to support their peers and reduce the barriers surrounding social and emotional development with one another.
Inclusivity is an important part of the school communities mission, and P.I.T. crew assists in extending our school’s outreach. SHS Senior Autumn Meagher states, “this is such a crucial program, and I’m surprised we didn’t have this on campus sooner”. Many other schools in Florida have their equivalent programs supporting the Florida Inclusion Network’s mission. Participation from all students can lead this new program to be successful as well.
Our school culture is essential to success, and creating an environment that allows for all students to thrive is crucial. Dr. Chase shares, “All students need support from time to time, regardless of whether or not they have a disability”. This support is what leads to a stronger school culture.
If you are interested in joining P.I.T. crew for the Spring 2025 Semester we encourage you to apply.
