LANA DEL REY RELEASES HONEYMOON
October 16, 2015
Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, better known by her stage name Lana Del Rey, released her fourth studio album, Honeymoon, on September 18, 2015.
The album captures elements similar to her previous albums Born to Die and Paradise, which were released in 2012. Both were critically acclaimed for their vintage style and echoed beats. Del Rey’s albums consistently portray her style in a unique way and create a sound that is distinct from other artists.
When asked about the style of Honeymoon, Lana Del Rey states that it is, “very different from the previous album and similar to the first two [albums], Born to Die and Paradise.” Del Rey was looking to create something different with majestic choruses, beautiful orchestrations and a type of 50’s vibe with a bit of soft grunge.
Del Rey has been writing her own music for twelve years now. She has come a long way from her past struggles in getting into the music industry. Her first album was pulled out of circulation because “nothing was happening.” After that, Del Rey broke off her contract with her old recording company, 5 Points Records, and signed with Interscope Records. Together they released Born to Die in 2012, which received largely positive feedback.
Her success continues with High by the Beach, which is the fifth song on the album and first single to be released. The song has received positive reviews among her fans. Music critics have acclaimed this song as one of Del Rey’s best songs, landing it a spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Sophomore Mansoor Esfandieyar says, “I usually don’t listen to [Lana’s] music, but this album was really catchy.”

Junior Reagan Pack says, “Although all her songs do share that [vintage theme], Honeymoon sounds just like the others enough to where they would be considered related, yet different enough to open up a new door to a place she hasn’t taken her songs before.”
Honeymoon, although it is her fourth album, has managed to produce a new album with a style consistent with her older albums while still bringing individuality to each song.
