“And the Academy award goes to….Leonardo DiCaprio!” the words that have never been said may have finally just come true. Many people know him as being one of this generation’s greatest actors, but is one of few who has never won an Academy award.

However, recently there has been a mix up found over every time he was nominated, showing that he actually has won all the awards he was nominated for! Was it really a mistake, or was it intentional? That investigation has thankfully come to a close.

The incident was found out a few weeks ago, when the 2013 Academy Awards took place. Even though DiCaprio wasn’t nominated, many actors and actresses won an Oscar that night. After the awards show, though, something was revealed.

It seems for the past times DiCaprio had been nominated, he had won those awards, but not been given them at all! There is a logical explanation; however, it seems that the Oscars had a mishap over the countless times that DiCaprio had been nominated.

Freshman Sarah Ruby said “I love Leonardo DiCaprio, and I’m so happy now that I know the Oscars have made mistakes about him losing over the course of his career!”

The first time he was nominated for an Academy award was back in 1993 for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, but lost out on his first nomination. The second time he was nominated was for The Aviator in 2004, but lost out on that award. The third time he was nominated was for Blood Diamond in 2006, and lost, again.

Senior Adam Johansson said “I knew when Leo didn’t win for Blood Diamond that something fishy was going on. Even though I was young, he was incredible in that!”

Like Adam said, there have been many suspicions as to why DiCaprio hasn’t won any awards for being such a talented actor. Now these suspicions can finally come to an end, because he actually has won those awards.

Besides the confusion over why he hasn’t received any awards, there have also been many jokes about this on social networking sites. The most popular “funny page” to look for these is on Tumblr, a blogging website.

Sophomore Amanda Robertson said “I have a Tumblr page, and I used to feel horrible for laughing at those DiCaprio posts, but now I feel better knowing that he won those awards!”

The Oscars official statement was that the ballot that the winning names are printed on has seemed to have had a mishap of printing for every time he was nominated. However, they are glad to announce that DiCaprio has in fact won all of his awards!
