Throughout history, the human brain has gained plenty of useful and interesting knowledge, and it has been constantly evolving as humans learn more. Adding onto this, recent studies have shown that children born in or after the year 2000 are in fact going to be a part of the smartest generation to ever exist due to the use of technology.
Some argue that “the dumbest generation” involves children born in the early 2000s and on since these children were exposed to digital media more heavily than children in previous years. Because older generations didn’t experience technology until later in life, they do not realize the true benefits of it and how it is influencing this generation. For example, scientists have concluded that technology does in fact trigger key centers in the brain that help with complex reasoning and enhance decision-making. The learning lessons and games in computers tend to help the brain as much as, if not more, than the average classroom.
Technology has rapidly grown and gained popularity since the year 2000; research and studies show that this will be extremely beneficial in terms of the minds of this generation. However, it will only be helpful if technology is approached in a smart way since these children will grow up around all of this technology. Children may be exposed to it in their homes and at education facilities, but using technology too much may actually hurt the brain as well. As long as technology is approached in the correct way, children will continue to grow in their mindset.
Even if the millennials do not grow up with a plethora of technology in their households, they still will most likely be exposed to it in schools. Within the past ten years, schools and education facilities have dramatically increased their uses of technology. This will help children have unlimited access to research, interact with students all across the globe for assistance, and even play educational games in computer labs on campus.
Senior Garrett Measures says, “There has been a huge evolution of technology that has helped these kids become smarter and smarter, but I think that even without the technology, we have acquired more knowledge that has also helped these kid’s brains develop faster.”
While it is a fact that technology does help with the growth of the brain, this newest generation has also broken all boundaries with their testing abilities and developmental state of mind. These children will surpass previous generations also because the education system is working greatly to their advantage. With the use of technology being used in students’ everyday lives, they will become the smartest generation that the world has ever seen.
Junior Kelsey Diaz says, “I think that children nowadays definitely are the smartest that the world has ever seen. They have amazing skills especially at such a young age, and they will no doubt better the world as a whole.”
All in all, technology will definitely help this generation live up to its name as the “smartest generation” to walk the earth.
