Seminole High School’s Muslim Student Association (MSA) is more than just a club—it’s a space where students come together to build a sense of community and an environment for understanding. Open to all students, regardless of background or religion, MSA is dedicated to promoting cultural awareness and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels welcome.
‘My favorite part about MSA is that we have a community here at school and spend time with our friends,” said Fatema Hossain, a Health Academy Junior and a two-year MSA member.
The club’s mission is to bridge gaps between religions and cultures, by providing a space for friendly dialogue and meaningful discussion. Through their events and activities, MSA members aim to share Islamic values, celebrate diversity, and encourage unity among students. “ I hope MSA helps its members feel a deeper connection to their culture and religion while promoting inclusivity and understanding within the school community. It’s about fostering mutual respect and showing that MSA is a space for everyone, regardless of background, to learn and grow together! “ said Tahmid, the club’s co-president.
MSA hosts a variety of events throughout the year, but monthly meetings are casual, discussing various topics, Kahoot, and of course, plenty of snacks. MSA has plans for the future. Members and officers are already brainstorming new initiatives to expand the club’s reach. Among these ideas are cultural fairs that showcase the rich traditions of Muslim communities, unity iftars during Ramadan to bring students and families together, and partnering with local mosques to support local causes and to provide volunteering opportunities. These upcoming events aim to strengthen the club’s connections within Seminole High while encouraging more students to join the conversation.
For many members, MSA’s importance lies in its ability to challenge misconceptions and promote understanding. The club actively works to dispel stereotypes about Islam, focusing instead on building bridges between different communities.
As the club grows, its leaders remain committed to creating a space where every student feels valued. Whether through lively meetings, impactful volunteer work, or thought-provoking discussions, MSA continues to inspire its members to make a difference.
