In the offseason there was one key trade that happened between the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Cavaliers and the Timberwolves were discussing trading Kevin Love for several months. Philadelphia decided to jump into the trade and make it a three team trade. Cleveland Cavaliers received Kevin Love from Minnesota while the Timberwolves received Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and Thaddeus Young, and a $6.3million trade exception. The 76ers received Luc Richard, Mbah A Moute, Alexey Shved and a 2015 first-round pick.
Over the offseason the Cavaliers also had a major pick up with the resigning of LeBron James for two years. The Cavaliers now have three big stars which make up a big three of LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving. Without needing to resign their big three the San Antonio Spurs have Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, and Tony Parker looking to win their second championship in a row.
Sophomore Michael Dillion says, “The Cavaliers [have the best big three] because Kyrie Irving is a great point guard, LeBron James is the best all-around player, and Kevin Love is the dominant big man.” Dillon also says, “LeBron James going to the Cavaliers [was the biggest offseason move] because he is the NBA’s best player and he makes the Cavaliers team near complete.”
With the preseason starting coaches are able to analyze their players and see who they want to start and who they want to come off the bench. Coaches have hard decisions though as if a key player gets injured they have to find a way to fill the player’s position and get the same results. For example Kevin Durant who is out for eight weeks with a fractured foot. Therefore the Oklahoma City Thunder coach, Scott Brooks, needs to find a replacement that will provide the same results.
Fans are really looking forward to the start of the season as they anticipate the excitement.
Junior Chirag Lodha shows his thoughts on events that will happen throughout the season when he says, “Derrick Rose will get injured, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant will come off injury pretty well and San Antonia will still be a power house.”
Another fan Jordan Katz anticipates a different outcome when he says, “[I’m] looking forward to LeBron winning a championship, the Heat failing, and the All Star game.”
