As summer sets in and temperatures reach record highs, many want to hit the beach or play volleyball. However, to do that, most need to hit the beach, which is typically 30 minutes to an hour away. Recognizing this, Seminole High School (SHS) has decided to make a new addition to Seminole- the beach volleyball court. Near the tennis courts and other sports, the volleyball court is one addition students are particularly excited about. With people’s love for beaches and volleyball, this court will please many. Along with the court, there was also a coffee shop a few weeks ago. All in all, SHS is trying to improve the school with these changes.
This court was kept under wraps for a while as it was built. Starting its production at the end of summer, the school had been working relentlessly to make sure the court was perfect. However, as its ending nears, SHS has finally decided to make the announcement. Exciting many, students are eagerly anticipating the release of it, ready to hit the small beach and play the sport. The volleyball team is especially excited as now they can play their sport in the warm sand with high temperatures. Also, it was the first volleyball court in Seminole, as previously there were only tennis ones and basketball ones.
Madison Wright, a senior on the volleyball team, stated “I’m really glad we have courts. Normally we’d have to makeshift something else to play volleyball, but now we have our own court. We used to have to travel to Beck Ranch which was like 20-30 minutes away some days, and my gas tank was aching. So this would be helpful as now we could just walk there. We would also be able to play volleyball whenever we want now instead of scheduling a plan that would fit everyone’s schedule. The beach team is relatively new but everyone is extremely excited for the upcoming courts. “
This year, Florida’s winter has reached record low temperatures with it snowing about 4 feet in Pensacola. Previous to this, it only snowed a couple of inches and was quickly gone. With the record low temperatures also comes record-breaking high temperatures. Nearing 90 degrees in February, many are concerned how hot summer is actually going to be. A lot of people’s time will be spent at the beach or at the pool. Typically, spent swimming or playing volleyball. Luckily, Seminole’s new addition will allow people to hit the sand, and it would only take a 2 minute walk.
Besides athletic students, many students who don’t play volleyball are also excited.
Boomika Jutu Srinivasan exclaims “Right now I’m in freshman year, so we’re still on the ninth-grade campus. But I always wanted to try out volleyball and this would be the perfect opportunity. We don’t have volleyball at home, so I can’t really play there. I’m in lacrosse right now, but I’m excited to expand my horizons and try some more sports. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s on a small beach too.”
Overall, Seminole High School’s new addition has left many eagerly anticipating and excited for this sport. From the volleyball players getting their first court to normal people excited to try it out, this sport has definitely made its impact. Even encouraging many to start playing the sport. With the temperatures comes sweltering heat which this sport will luckily counter. Everyone’s anticipation rises as Seminole is coming in with all their new additions-ranging from the coffee shop to courts. Paving an exciting way for future Noles, improving their school experience.
