This school year, a new rule has been put in place for students who ride the bus. Every time a student gets on or off, they must scan their school ID. This system is meant to make bus rides safer by keeping track of who is on the bus at all times. However, not everyone is happy about it.
The school administration says this new rule will help in many ways, such as if a student gets on the wrong bus or doesn’t get off at their stop, the school can check the system and know where they are. It also helps bus drivers know exactly how many students are on board, which can be useful in case of an emergency.
Another reason for the change is to help parents. Many parents worry when their child is late coming home. With this system, parents can call the school and find out exactly when their child got off the bus. It also prevents students from sneaking onto the wrong bus or getting off at a friend’s stop without permission.
While some students agree that the new system is helpful, others find it annoying. Many students forget their IDs at home or somewhere at school, which can cause problems when trying to board the bus. Some also think it slows down the process of getting on and off, especially when a lot of students are rushing to scan their cards at the same time.
Jaythrey Brijesh, an IB sophomore, shared his thoughts on the new system: “I understand why the school is doing it, but I think it’s kind of a hassle. Sometimes I’m rushing in the morning and forget my ID, and then I have to go all the way back inside to get it. It makes me late for the bus.”
On the other hand, Trevin Le, a sophomore, sees the positives: “At first, I thought it was annoying, but now I think it’s a good idea. If something happens, the school will know exactly where I got on and off. It makes me feel safer, and my parents like it too.”
The school has tried to make things easier by reminding students to always keep their IDs in their backpacks. Some students have also started using lanyards to make sure they don’t lose them.
For now, the system is here to stay, and students will have to adjust. While it may take some getting used to, the goal is to keep everyone safe and organized. Whether students love it or hate it, scanning IDs is now part of the daily bus routine.
