Not everyone who applies for student body president recalls the exact moment when they decided to run—Nicky Blonsick does. Inspired by past student body president Valerie Gonzalez, Blonsick decided she wanted to impact Seminole’s student body as well, after watching the change Gonzalez had on the school.
“It’s honestly the greatest honor to be elected by my peers and I take great pride at what goes on at Seminole,” says senior NickyBlonsick. “I’ve been working to increase school spirit, such as a higher number of pep rallies and promoting a positive atmosphere on campus.”
As a devoted band musician and Leadership member, Nicky constantly surrounds others with her positivity and spirit.
Junior Isabelle McHugh says, “She includes everyone and looks at people’s strengths to see what they’re best at. She helps them reach their full potential.”
Not only does she manage the Leadership class, but she also closes the bridge between students and administrators. As Seminole’s student ambassador and president, the student body’s needs are always on her mind. This includes leading student events and working directly with teachers and administrators. By working so closely with the staff, she is able to create an organized agenda for the student body.
Leadership advisor Ms. Janill Jesni says, “She’s 100% organized, like me, and keeps open communication with me. She comes to speak with me every morning and [we] debrief about the day.”
Being a student ambassador takes skill, specifically in public speaking. Not only does Blonsick have to speak at graduation, but she is required to openly talk to the student body about upcoming student activities.
Senior Joshua Tijerino says, “She’s outspoken about her opinions and she’s very diplomatic in the way she speaks. She speaks really well on the news. ”
Even though the year has just begun, there are some things Blonsick wants to leave behind for all of Seminole High.
“The legacy to leave behind is a sense of family,” said Blonsick, “I want everyone at Seminole to be able to look back at their high school years with great love and memories. […] I want to show people that getting involved with school spirit and activities make Seminole amazing.”
After her term, Blonsick wants to attend a four-year university and study early childhood education and business. Blonsick says, “I want to start a daycare and work with children with autism.”
Make sure to look for this spirited and determined president around campus!
