As another school year begins, the time-honored fall tradition of varsity football makes its way back to the fields and Friday nights of Seminole High School.
After losing many key players from last season’s playoff squad to graduation, new head coach Kerry Wiggins and a group of new team leaders will attempt to navigate a fortified district schedule to lead the ‘Noles back to playoff success. The Seminole breaks it down game by game.
Aug. 23 at Evans High School, 7:30 P.M.
This year’s jamboree game and season opener gives many younger players a chance to play against high-level competition before the season begins in earnest.
Aug. 30 Winter Springs High School, 7:30 P.M.
The ‘Noles welcome back the Bears for another year, as Winter Springs looks to avenge a last-minute loss at Seminole last season.
Sep. 6 Flanagan High School, 7:00 P.M.
Seminole welcomes a talented side from South Florida to their school as an early-season barometer of their performance.
Sep. 13 at Dr. Phillips High School, 7:30 P.M.
The ‘Noles travel to a regional powerhouse in a rematch of 2010’s state semifinals matchup in which the Panthers dealt a crushing loss to Seminole.
Sep. 20 Lyman High School, 7:30 P.M.
Lyman travels to Sanford in the first matchup of district play, as Seminole tries to forget a loss to the Greyhounds last season.
Sep. 27 at Lake Mary High School, 7:30 P.M.
A great Central Florida rivalry failed to disappoint last season, as the ‘Noles beat the Rams for a spot in the Class 8A playoffs. The game this season promises to be another instant classic.
Oct. 3 at Spruce Creek High School, 7:00 P.M.
Although there is some considerable physical distance between these schools, a long history of games between the teams gives the matchup some significance.
Oct. 11 University High School, 7:30 P.M.
Seminole welcomes in the Titans in a key fixture if the ‘Noles want to make a serious challenge for a playoff berth this season.
Oct. 18 at DeLand High School, 7:00 P.M.
The next installment of the Battle of the Bridge rivalry comes after the Seminole knocked the Bulldogs out of the playoffs in the first round last season. Expect the Bulldogs to play as hard as ever for revenge.
Oct. 25 Lake Brantley High School, 7:30 P.M.
The game against the Patriots always seems to be a crucial point of the season for Seminole, and this year should be no different against the class of the district the last two seasons.
Nov. 8 at Oviedo High School, 7:30 P.M.
The ‘Noles have had a difficult time against the Lions in recent memory, but this game could be for all the marbles: a playoff spot and a chance to play for the Class 8A state title.
