Seminole’s tennis team’s 2014 season started in the beginning of February. With a new members on the team, the team has high hopes.
The Varsity Boys’ team is currently undefeated, 3-0.
Sophomore Naveen Krishnan said, “The season has started off great! We can definitely see first place in our future.”
Last year, the Varsity Girls’ team went from never placing to placing third in the district and winning first in the state for GPA.
Senior and team captain Michelle Zhong said, “I am so proud of every player. This year is going to be our best year yet! Our goal is to get first in the district.”
The boys’ varsity team shares the same goal of winning first at Districts this year.
Junior Viraj Shah said, “Last year, we got fourth and it was a good run for the team that we had. This year, we have a really good team and expect much more.”
The boys’ 2013 season included two victorious consecutive wins against a formerly undefeated school, Lyman High. Both were close matches, which only made the games even more exciting to watch and satisfying to celebrate.
“Tennis is a really personal sport when it’s just you and your opponent on opposite sides of the net. It’s really easy for someone to get hot-headed—one player even picked up his bags and walked off the court during semifinals at Districts after being called out by the line judge a few times,” reminisced Krishnan.
A new member of the team, freshman Timothy Vu expressed, “Being a new addition to the team, I have to live up and if possible, best last year’s team by being the best I can be. I hope that the team will be able to overcome any challenges from other schools.”
Overall, both the girls’ and boys’ varsity tennis teams are expecting a great year under Mrs. Sue Gladman’s coaching.
