*SPOILER WARNING*
A treasure hunt unlike the others. With lives at stake and secrets at every corner, Outer Banks (OBX) held the place for the first best show on Netflix for quite a while.
Decades ago, a group of people were on the beach one day when one of them came across an abandoned picture of a group of 4, sitting around a bonfire having the time of their life. The inspiration soon struck to what would soon be one of the most entertaining and wildly successful shows.
Outer Banks takes place in North Carolina, An island divided into the Kooks and Pogues. The Kooks were born into a life of riches, while the Pogues were born on the cut, into a life of poverty.
Four pogues -John B, Sarah, JJ, and Pope- discover a sunken boat on one of their daily fishing trips. Curiosity peaks and the pogues dive in.
Discovering clues left by John B’s missing father, the pogues go on to try to find the Royal Merchant. Adding new members -Sarah and Cleo- obstacles rise, the pogues soon find the gold yet they haven’t lost the kooks chasing them. A murder is placed on John B which soon revolves itself due to new evidence coming to light. The pogues then concoct an almost successful plan to get the gold back.
Although, this adventure almost cost their lives the pogues were back at it again for the next season. This time looking for the city of El Dorado. Through even more chases, the Pogues stumble across the city of El Dorado. However, it seems someone found it first and he’s not willing to share.
Escaping death slightly, the pogues grab some gold and blow up the cave. With the few pieces gained, they cash it out amounting to a million dollars.
Just when everything seems perfect, an auction takes place and JJ spends most of their money leaving them broke once again. A quest is given and the blue crown is the artifact this time. Yet this adventure has more at stake, changing the course of many characters’ lives. JJ , soon comes to find out that he was given away and his mother was killed. Becoming even more reckless, JJ is ready to risk it all for his family, the Pogues. Narrowly escaping death countless times, the Pogues soon find themselves in Morocco.
“I loved the Morocco adventure. There was a lot of drama but there were some fun filled moments too. I was really excited for Sarah’s pregnancy and I love that Rafe joined them,“ exclaims Sophomore Hasnika Paini.
After years of searching for peace, it’s finally in JJ’s grasp as he holds the crown that would solve all the Pogues’ problems. However, what he doesn’t know is that his biological father is back for it again along with another group. Upsetting millions of fans, JJ is killed off by his own father, leading to the end of his life. “ JJ’s death was really sad because he finally had everything he wanted and was killed by his own father, and now he’s never going to meet Sarah and John b’s baby.” says Sophomore Jamyah Jeralds .
Recently being renewed for a season 5, the pogues and Rafe are back and this time they’re the ones seeking revenge. Although there are controversial opinions about whether people will be viewing season 5 due to Rudy Pankow (JJ) leaving the show. Nonetheless, thousands are eagerly waiting for the release of the final season of OBX, and maybe the best one yet.
