Throughout the first week of the football season there have been blow outs, comebacks, and overtime thrillers. Fans have been anticipating the start of the football season since the Super Bowl last year. This year fans are hoping their team makes it to the playoffs.
Seattle Seahawks versus Green Bay Packers
The Seahawks dominated the Packers 36-16. Marshawn Lynch put the offense on top with over 100 yards. The defense line tore apart Aaron Rodgers with three sacks and a strip fumble. Seattle did not have a problem scoring as they scored three points in the first, fourteen in the second, five in the third and another fourteen in the fourth quarter.
Atlanta Falcons versus New Orleans Saints
The Falcons beat the Saints 37 to 34 because of two clutch field goals by the Falcons kicker Shayne Graham. Matt Ryan who threw for 448 yards led a drive in the final seconds of the fourth quarter for Graham to kick a 51 yard field goal. Heading into overtime the Saints received the ball first. After a turnover the Falcons had the ball on the Saint’s side of the field. This resulted in three runs and a 52 yard field goal for the win.
Minnesota Vikings versus St. Louis Rams
The Vikings destroyed the Rams 34-6. This large margin was due to the receiver Cordarrelle Patterson who had 102 yards rushing and 26 reception yards. The Rams started the game with their second string quarterback Shaun Hill. After an injury they had to go to their third string quarterback Austin Davis.
Pittsburgh Steelers versus Cleveland Browns
The Steelers survived a near upset by kicking a field goal within the final seconds of the game. The Steelers were up 27-3 after the first half. They blew the 24 point lead in the second half. Shaun Suisham kicked a 41 yard field goal in the final seconds to win 30-27. During the game on a kickoff return by Antonio Brown he tried to jump over the kicker and instead kicked him in the face.
Philadelphia Eagles versus Jacksonville Jaguars
The Eagles made a memorable 34 point comeback to win 34-17. The Jaguars took a 17 point lead going into the first half. The Eagles who come out strong in the second half led by Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy scored 14 in the third and 20 in the fourth.
New York Jets versus Oakland Raiders
The Jets escaped a near defeat to the Raiders but were able to pull it off with a 71 yard touchdown run by Chris Ivory. With one minute and twenty one seconds left in the fourth Derek Carr through to Darrin Walls for a touchdown and cut down the margin. The Raiders attempted an on sides kick but they were not successful resulting in the Jets getting the ball and ending the game.
Cincinnati Bengals versus Baltimore Ravens
By half time the Bengals had scored five field goals and had a fifteen point lead. Then in the second half the Ravens scored a touchdown in the third and two three field goals in the fourth. But the Bengals made it work when A.J. Green caught a 77 yard touchdown and converted a 2 point conversion.
Buffalo Bills versus Chicago Bears
With an overtime field goal the Bills beat the Bears 23-20. The Bills had a 17-7 lead going into half time but Jay Cutler brought the Bears back. Throwing for 349 yards total he led the Bears to tie up the Bills and put the game into overtime. The Bears received the ball first but went three-and-out. Fred Jackson with a 38 yard run to the Bears 1 yard line setting up the winning field goal for the Bills.
Houston Texans versus Washington Redskins
The Texans won over the Redskins seventeen to six and they showed improvement from their last season offense. There was a touchdown pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick to DeAndre Hopkins. Also there was a 42 yard field goal by the Texans kicker Randy Bullock. On defense Alfred Blue had a blocked punt for a touchdown. The Redskins had a single touchdown and their extra point kick was blocked.
Kansas City Chiefs versus Tennessee Titans
The Chiefs offense really struggled against the Titan defense with the Titans winning 26-10. The quarterback of the Chiefs Alex Smith threw three interceptions. Jake Locker threw two touchdown passes, one to Kendall Wright and one to Delanie Walker. Also the Titan kicker Ryan Succop hit all four of his field goal attempts.
New England Patriots versus Miami Dolphins
The Patriots blow a ten point half time lead and lose to the Dolphins 33-20. This was in part to the Dolphins sacking Tom Brady 4 times and stripping two fumbles. A key part of the Dolphins offense was that of Knowshon Moreno who rushed for 134 yards.
Carolina Panthers versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Panthers and Buccaneers game was back and forth. The Panthers pulled off the 20-14 win in the fourth. The Panthers led 10-0 after the second quarter. The Buccaneers came back and scored 14 but the Panthers scored ten of their own. The big part of the Panther’s offense came from the backup quarterback Derek Anderson, who threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers defense also held the Buccaneers offense back with a forced fumble, two interceptions and three sacks.
San Francisco 49ers versus Dallas Cowboys
The 49ers defense was a key part of the win over the Cowboys forcing one fumble and three interceptions in the 28-17 win. The 49ers scored 21 points in the first quarter with the two touchdowns on passes to Vernon Davis. The other touchdown that quarter was from a fumble return for a touchdown. Another touchdown in the second kept the 49ers out of the danger zone. The Cowboys came out in the second half and kept the 49ers to no points. The 49ers defense was picked apart as the Cowboys scored 17.
Denver Broncos versus Indianapolis Colts
After the first quarter it looked like the Broncos would win big over the Colts. A strong fourth quarter effort by Andrew Luck and the offense brought the score down to one touchdown with the score ending as 31-24. What really hurt the Colts was that Andrew Luck through two interceptions. For the Broncos Julius Thomas caught three touchdowns and was a main receiver throughout the night.
Detroit Lions versus New York Giants
The Lions offense out played the Giants defense as Mathew Stafford brought the Lions a 35-14 win. He threw two touchdowns to Calvin Johnson and rushed one in himself. Stafford threw for 346 yards and Calvin was 164 of them. The Giants scored once in the second and once in the fourth quarters. Eli Manning had a bad night passing with two interceptions and only 18 completions.
Arizona Cardinals versus San Diego Chargers
This game was a real good game but the Cardinals pulled off the win because of a two point conversion. The scored ended up being 16-15 Cardinals. The only turnover was an interception thrown by the Philip Rivers. There was also only two sacks on Carson Palmer.
