The Dr. Phillips High School Panthers looked every bit of the regional powerhouse that they are in dispatching the Seminole High School varsity football team Friday night, 42-7.
Senior runningback Joe Baker rushed 19 times for 90 yards in the loss, and junior quarterback NewK Tillman took a quarterback sneak into the endzone in the fourth quarter for the team’s lone touchdown.
Dr. Phillips jumped to an early lead on the first play from scrimmage in the game, breaking a long touchdown run for the score. The Seminole offense had difficulties gaining momentum in the first half, and repeated good field position for the Panthers helped them to a 35-0 lead at halftime.
With the clock running in the second half, the ‘Noles defense tightened up and forced several turnovers that turned into scoring opportunities. Following a fumble recovery inside of the Panthers’ twenty yard line, a powerful run by Baker set up the Tillman sneak that put the ‘Noles on the board.
Seminole attempts to avenge the loss next week on September 20 against the Lyman Greyhounds. The homecoming game will include the crowning of the homecoming king and queen at halftime.
