Commotion in front of the KWC Building as students seemed to gather outside, waiting for doors to open after school. Outsiders questioning whether they too should join in the line just in case it’s something amazing.
When you see this rush of students at KWC on a seemingly random Monday, that is the sign that National Honor Society (NHS) has officially begun.
On August 19th, students from all different programs of Seminole High School (SHS) gathered in the KWC Auditorium to attend the first NHS meeting of the year. Held on the first of every Monday, officers as well as advisors present relevant topics to the members including but not limited to: Common App information, scholarships, and volunteer opportunities.
This prestige club does not just accept anyone and consists of juniors and seniors with a 3.5 GPA or higher. During this meeting, the officers and advisors went over the preliminary aspects of the club such as requirements for community service, when meetings are, and how to get in contact for help.
Furthermore, the students were given their very own club shirts for this school year! Officers have the color maroon whereas members will wear the Seminole High School’s color orange. The color of these t-shirts were done very strategically by the advisors of the club, Guy and Ashley Stump. Each year, members’ t-shirt color alternates from orange to black so by the end of the two years in NHS, you can collect all the colors.
This club could not function without the wonderful advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Stump. Mr. Stump teaches history, both AP and IB, whereas Mrs. Stump teaches math IB and AP. This power couple has a ran the club for the last couple of years and never fails to inspire the members to continue striving in the way of community.
The NHS officer team for the 24-25 school year consists of all seniors from a variety of backgrounds and includes the following Noles:
Mihir Kelkar & Makenna Arnott (Co-Presidents)
Zainab Dewji, Zia Ali, Ruby Feng, Clarence Ta, and Lucas Carter (Officers)
For more information about this club, see any of the officers or head on over to their instagram page (@nolesnhs). We at the Seminole Times are most excited to see what this new team will be able to accomplish this academic year!
