Due to past years, the positive morale surrounding the Seminole High School football team has seemingly slowly faded away. That may have appeared to be the case, but many football players actually say the opposite. They show that the past years have not discouraged them, but have actually encouraged the team to strive every day to be the best team possible.
Senior captain Gage Krull says “We’re a good team and we play well, but there’s a lot of adversity with the changing of the coaches last year.” Also commenting on the teams overall attitude, Krull says “We’re pretty positive amongst ourselves, I’m not sure how [other players] talk outside of the team.”
Despite all the positive attitudes of the players, there does seem to be one common theme mentioned that seems to be bringing the team down, and that’s individuals. Some players seem to think of themselves as less of a part of a unit, but more so a one-man army.
Krull states that the way their coaches put it, “there are kids who are individuals and do not follow team morals and don’t think we can play to our full potential, they’re usually kids who are more about themselves and less about the team”
This also emphasizes the importance of brotherhood and a team-like mentality going into all games and practices. It strengthens the bond of all the players and boosts the overall morale.
Athletic Trainer Senior Tatiana Dixon says “They’re a lot more positive than people think. Yeah the things people say get to them, but they’ve come together a lot this year.”
The season and future ahead does seem bright for the Seminole football team, there are just a few minor and fixable parts of the team that can get taken care of in this 2014 season.
Senior captain Demetrius Artis says, “I haven’t seen or experienced negativity, maybe last year but I don’t feel like that, this year we’re starting something great.”
