This past weekend, Seminole High School’s (SHS) Model United Nations (MUN) team embarked on an exciting and educational trip to Tampa, Florida, to participate in BullsMUN, a MUN conference hosted by the University of South Florida (USF). The two-day event brought together high school students from across the state to engage in diplomatic simulations, sharpen their debate skills, and foster a deeper understanding of global issues.
From the moment they arrived at USF, the Seminole MUN team was immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the conference. BullsMUN is a fairly new conference that featured an array of committees, ranging from General Assembly simulations such as the World Health Organization, to more specialized bodies like the Tampa City Council, and many crisis simulations.
For many students, this was their first major MUN conference, making it a unique opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools and gain exposure to a higher level of competition. Throughout the weekend, the Seminole delegates worked tirelessly to research their countries’ positions, draft resolutions, and form alliances with other delegations. The intensity of the debates and negotiations helped them to think critically and on their feet, while also improving their public speaking and teamwork skills.
In addition to the rigorous academic component, the trip to BullsMUN was also a bonding experience for the SHS MUN team. From getting to explore the USF campus, to simply hanging out at the hotel at the end of the night, SHS MUN grew closer together over the weekend and strengthened bonds with each other.
The hard work and preparation of the Seminole team paid off, as several members earned recognition for their outstanding performance. Delegates received honorable mentions, verbal commendations, and awards for Outstanding and Best Delegate in their respective committees, highlighting the strength of the Seminole MUN team. Congratulations to everyone that received an award!
