Sending Sunshine hosted a fundraiser this past Monday to raise money for supplies for the club such as paper and markers. But they did not just hold any fundraiser, they held an uno tournament! The entry fee was two dollars and the winner would get ten volunteer hours.
The uno tournament started off with two small groups playing against each other. Whoever was the winner of each group, plus one extra person, got to compete in the final round. The round came to an end with our first winner, Anastasia Howard, winning ten hours of volunteer time! Since everyone had so much fun, two additional rounds were played as one big group. The two winners from those rounds were Abra Stalker, the club founder, and Isabella Gallego, the vice president.
Sending Sunshine has many fun events year round such as the parade and an upcoming movie night in December and a Thanksgiving potluck. Usually meetings are spent making cards for the elderly with different weekly themes. Junior, Sofia Antonio, shares what she loves about sending sunshine: “I’m so glad I found Sending Sunshine this year. It’s one of my favorite clubs and there are so many things I love about it. I love the whole idea of the club. It’s so nice being able to make cards for the elderly. It’s such a simple but sweet gesture and I love being able to be a part of it. I also love being able to spend time with my friends there. Because of this I always look forward to attending Sending Sunshine!”
Sending Sunshine meets every Monday in Health Academy 215, we hope to see you at the next meeting, which will be a potluck for those interested!
