Many students get lost in a world of digital distractions and are often left feeling lazy or unproductive. It’s important for teenagers to be able to express and socialize with friends, it helps to boost their mood in addition to taking their mind off of stress factors. Scrapbooking is an enthralling beneficial pass time for those of whom enjoy documenting memories and expressing themselves artistically.
Seminole’s new Scrapbooking Club aims to provide students with a great variety of ideas for self expression, the sponsors of the club specifically strive to help promote healthier ways to relieve stress as well as open up a safe space for friends to become closer through documenting their memories.
“I first fell in love with scrapbooking by making something special for my boyfriend, and to this day it is still something we both admire. I wanted to find a new outlet other than social media that I can reflect on in years time and use as a creative outlet,” Jayden Jensen states, a senior SHS student, as well as the President of Scrapbooking Club.
“Scrapbooking Club was specifically started to help reduce stress and anxiety, giving students reflective prompts and a supportive environment for their thoughts and ideas.” Jensen shares. Prompt ideas are typically given as inspiration, but students are encouraged to pick their own original topic if that’s what inspires them most!
Jayden Jensen, along with Maya Hawke, Sending Sunshine’s second year officer, and Newspaper’s own Photo Manager Abra Stalker are this year’s officers of Scrapbooking club, as well as its own first year running at Seminole. Incoming Juniors and Sophomores are especially encouraged to take part in this new club to take on officer positions in following school years, as all the officers this school year are upperclassmen. However, it does not stop them from starting up early in the school year!
Their very first interest meeting was this past Tuesday, August 20th, with a shocking turnout. Officers and members alike both took part in decorating their own unique cover to start off this year’s activities. Filling in information about their favorite artists, hobbies, jobs, and other characteristics, students were given a variety of supplies to help them achieve their ultimate visions.
Maya Hawke, Scrapbooking’s senior Secretary, states her hopes on the club’s influence throughout the student body, mentioning: “ I think this club will bring people together and create a space where people can honestly express themselves.” She hopes this club will encourage a lot of students to not only do it here at school, but during their own time out of school.
She even shares her outlook on the interest meeting: “Seeing everyone working with each other really showed what true potential our club has to offer up to students, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year looks like!”
Students are encouraged to show up after school every Tuesday in Health Academy-215 to be able to take part in this opportunity. Officers have mentioned there are no requirements for membership in the club as supplies are provided by officers, the only thing students need to bring is their own scrapbook to put their work in!
Scrapbooking Club has already obtained the attention of numerous creative students at school, allowing teens and friends to come along and create together. With the year just starting, the club has so much more potential for the rest of the year, offering many new and creative endeavors.
