Novels have been brought to life on the silver screen for years. Sometimes these adaptations are true to their origin and add to the experience of the story. The Harry Potter series adaptation is a prime example of one of these types of movies. It lent depth to the characters and brought them into a new light. However, sometimes these movies lack in those areas, such as with the Percy Jackson series. Many fans were disappointed with the changes in the characters and plotlines of a book series they had adored for so long.

Here are a few upcoming movies that will hopefully live up to the books they originated from.

1. Love, Simon: This coming-of-age story chronicles the ups and downs of Simon’s (Nick Robinson) life as an in-the-closet teen. When someone threatens to out Simon with the emails he has sent to his secret pen pal, Simon must balance the blackmail, family, friends, and possible romance.

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Mindy Kaling are all featured in this mind-blowing film.

After the creator of OASIS, James Halliday, dies, he leaves his fortune behind in a hidden easter egg within the virtual reality. This begins a world-wide contest to find his fortune first, with the main character, Wade Watts, in the very center of it. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this movie is sure to be a wild ride.

“I read the book because it was popular, and I ended up loving it! It had so many ’80s references that I understood and really enjoyed. I saw the trailer and it looks amazing. I hope they don’t mess it up because it’s my favorite book,” said junior Sarah Wynbrandt.
