Starting this school year at Seminole High School, Health Academy students and all other students and faculty are welcoming Mr. Kenny Bevan as the new Health Academy Assistant Principal. In the past he has worked as a teacher at Midway Elementary and as a dean and assistant principal at Lake Mary High School.
Mr. Bevan was born in Miami, Florida but moved to Longwood, Florida when he was 6. He went to school in Seminole County and graduated at Lake Mary High School. Being a logical person, his favorite subject was math, and he was the Senior Class Vice President.
When a new assistant principal comes around, students start to wonder about change. He plans on bringing in more increased opportunities, increasing integrity, and industry exams which are certification exams that would allow students to graduate with a higher distinction. He believes that there are so many more jobs at a hospital than just being a health care worker, and he wants to open those opportunities up to the Health Academy students.
“He is very interested in finding a way for every student to succeed. He is very pro-student, and working hard to find a way that the Health Academy can grow,” said longtime Health Academy teacher Mrs. Mary Sanders.
He loves the Seminole tradition and the spirit, the connections that people feel with the school. After asked if he likes Seminole better than Lake Mary, he said, “I love them both. That’s like asking me which son do I like more. The students make both schools great. The faculty and staff have a way of connecting to each other and the students. They put a lot into their high school life.”
Mrs. Susan Bryan, Department Chair for Health Academy, said, “He wants to make improvements and to see the Academy grow. He’s willing to listen to all of our concerns with an open-door policy.”
Mr. Bevan has been married since 2001 and has two boys, aged 8 and 3. His favorite hobbies are to throw the baseball, swim, and Jet Ski with his family. He currently lives in Longwood, Florida.
