For three years, he was the same as the rest of Seminole’s ‘Noles. Walking the same hallways, trying to get through the mass of students in an attempt to get to class on time.
Just a “quietly outgoing” guy who is kind (“most of the time”) and approachable. He’s an avid swimmer who has been on the swim team for three years now—this is his fourth.
Seminole wasn’t even his zoned school—he wasn’t supposed to go here—but now, almost four years later, he is Trevor Mylin: an IB senior and our current student body president.
For those that know Trevor, it’s easy to see that he has the personality for being student body president for a school as large and diverse as Seminole. His peers and classmates certainly seem to have confidence in his ability to do a great job as president.
Divya Dhulipala, a junior and a fellow member of Leadership, said “Trevor is really easy to get along with. He’s creative, talented, smart, and genuinely friendly. He truly cares about this school.”
The size and diversity of our school are what primarily motivated Mylin to campaign. “I wanted to run because Seminole is so big and it’s hard to bring people together and I wanted to see if I could bring our school together and make it more united,” he said.
For anybody, getting to know a significant part of SHS’s population is quite a feat, even if one has four years to do it. Our student body president feels like he knows it pretty well. “I know it pretty well, but there is always more to know,” senior Trevor Mylin said. “Being approachable helps.”
Mylin has been in NHS, National Honor Society, for the past two years. Seminole’s NHS advisor Peggy Johnson also has faith in Mylin’s ability to be a great student body president. She said “Trevor has the ability to make all students feel important. He makes time to listen to the smallest issues.”
As for things to change about our school, Mylin said that there is not much to change. He said that the challenge was not so much about specific things to change about our school or campus. Rather, “the challenge is to bring people that live so far away closer together.”
Mylin brings up a good point. Not only is Seminole a large school, but it also has two magnet programs, IB and Health Academy, which means that there are hundreds of students coming from all over the county to one school from towns as far apart as Oviedo and Lake Mary.
How does one bring thousands ‘Noles together? Mylin, who has been in Leadership for two years, said that Leadership has set up a Facebook page, SeminoleLead, but it is a page “where you can feel personal with.”
Last year’s president, Valerie Gonzalez, was quite dedicated to this school and to bringing it closer together. “It’s hard to live up to Valerie,” Mylin said. “Valerie did such a great job…I want to continue the greatness she brought to this job.”
With such a dedicated president as Gonzalez whose efforts are still apparent, and an equally dedicated and well-liked student body president as Mylin, Seminole is in for a great year and hopefully many more to come.
When asked what he wanted to leave behind, Mylin said “I want to leave knowing I’ve done something for this school, something good.”
Here’s to a dedicated, caring student body president, and here’s to another great year at SHS!
