As the year continues, many students are looking for the latest Seminole gear to show their school pride, from shirts to scarves to water bottles. However, despite requests from students for more Seminole High paraphernalia, the school store is only able to sell a limited amount of products. More representation of school pride is needed, not only to encourage students to support the school but also to help fundraise for events.

Recently, the class of 2017 class council started fundraising for their class by selling Seminole High School themed tumblers. Athletic teams have also started selling Seminole High School themed products, such as scarves sold by the soccer team to raise money for their team uniforms. To raise awareness for breast cancer, Leadership is selling ‘Put a Cap on Cancer’ wristbands, while the soccer team is selling pink hats. All of these are examples of how the student population can bring together creative ideas that encourage Seminole spirit.

Senior Kairyn Peyton said that since the soccer team sold scarves last year, they decided to go along with the breast cancer theme this year.

“The soccer team benefits from the sales of the scarves, hats and everything else we sell,” said Peyton. “Some of the money also goes towards cancer research but the sales from selling products goes towards our uniforms.”

The possibilities are endless for the amount of products the school could sell to raise money. Ideas presented by students include headbands, sweatshirts, and pins of different styles. While many of the local stores in the Sanford community like Walmart and Target sell Seminole themed clothing, the profit from the clothing in the stores does not benefit the school in any way. Therefore, it would be more profitable to the school and the students if products were sold on campus, allowing the school to gain revenue from the clothing sales and creating a more convenient area for students to buy what they like. Just like there are competitions for the best door decorations during the holidays, there should be competitions for most creative t-shirt designs so students are able to input their own ideas.

“I would love to have more variety in clothing and products,” said junior Amrita Kapat. “I think some of things I know I would buy [include] face paint because my friends and I always wear it on pep rally days. Having it in the school store would not only be convenient but I think it would bring more students there.”

Having the products available in school for students to buy will make students more interested in showing school spirit. By creating variety in the things that the school sells, students can express their school spirit in different styles.

“I love Seminole and I just want to be able to show my school spirit,” said Kapat.
