With one of the most awaited events for many juniors and seniors fast approaching, students have been looking forward to what this year’s theme will be. Though the wait is finally over! This year’s prom theme is Rolling Stone.
When students hear this theme, they may either think of the rock and roll band, The Rolling Stones, or the pop culture magazine, Rolling Stone, and both are correct answers! Both options are similar in the way they are tied back to music, suiting the venue it will take place. The theme can be interpreted in many ways, just depending on the person. Basing it off the rock band, you might consider bold colors such as red and black, with an overall edgy vibe. With the magazine being high-fashioned and up-to-date on pop culture, you may go for more of a celebrity or red-carpet look.
Junior class council member, Fatema Hossain, shares the process behind picking the theme: “We had collaborated on the theme and each shared a few ideas that we liked and then we narrowed it down to the final one. We started planning in November, and though the theme is Rolling Stone, some other options we were deciding between were themes like Great Gatsby, Wonderland, Vogue, and many others. Some challenges we faced while picking the theme were trying to make it fit into the budget and maybe having to sacrifice one thing for another, like what activities we would include. Rolling Stone, from what I’ve seen, is very punk and can be referring to the band or magazine, it has a kind of rock vibe, so a carefree feeling when dressing. Students can dress however they’d prefer, it’s all about how they want to envision themselves in the theme.”
Alongside the announcement of the theme came other important information. Prom will be on Saturday, April 5th from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. This year’s venue will be the Hard Rock Live at Universal City Walk! Tickets are open for sale with the early bird ticket from February 3rd to the 14th costing $85 and the regular ticket sold from February 15th to March 7th costing $100. If you’re looking to bring a guest to prom, the guest ticket form will be open from March 10th to March 14th and will cost $100. The guest form can be found on the senior class’s Instagram and Minga.
An opportunity to win two paid-for prom tickets is available until Friday, February 7th. You can submit up to five raffle tickets using Minga points, with each raffle costing five Minga points.
With prom season beginning, the process of planning for many has begun. Girls have started looking for dresses, and plans for after the fun night has begun. “I’m super excited for this to be my first prom. I’m looking forward to getting all dressed up and hanging out with my friends all night,” says junior, Sofia Antonio. “I think the Rolling Stone theme is pretty cool. It seems super fun and different from what I expected the theme to be. I’m excited to see what they do with the decorations! I interpret the theme as celebrating music and pop culture, something about embracing creativity and a rock star kind of vibe. I might not stay on theme for my dress, since I’m looking to find a dress that I love, whether it matches the theme or not.”
Though prom is still two months away, it’s always best to start preparing in advance! With the theme announced, start looking into buying tickets and shopping before it’s too late.
