Talent in the music industry has been at an all time high this year. From pop beats to sadder tones, music has taken the world by storm. On September 11th, the Annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAS) were held to celebrate the world’s musicians. Keep reading to find more details on this event!
This year, the show was held at the iconic USB arena in New York City. Typically, they are either at this location or held in Los Angeles. These locations tend to be hot spots for celebrities, so having the VMAS here is fitting. The arena had a capacity of up to 17,250 people, plus the almost four million that were tuning in through their TVs all around the world.
The VMAS are split into a number of categories, with awards like “Video of the Year,” and “Song of the Summer.” Each artist can be nominated for multiple awards, with the top nominee being Taylor Swift, accumulating 12 nominations. Swift won awards for seven out of the 12 categories she was nominated for, which adds to her now 30 count of VMA wins. Other than that, there were many other intriguing categories that others won. There was “Best new Artist,” “Video of the Year,” and “Video for Good.” With all of these awards, the show spanned over three hours.
As well as awards, there were also performances. Some of the highlighted performers of the night were Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Camilla Cabello. Those three artists, and more, all performed on the main stage at the show. There were other sets, like the pre show with LE SERAFIM and the extended play stage with Jessie Murph and Teddy Swims. In total, 18 artists gave show stopping performances. Each performance had its own interesting traits, from dances to backflips, every artist perfectly crafted and executed what they wanted to do.
The show was hosted by American singer and rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who also gave a performance during the night. Stallion was nominated for art direction, as well as trending video, with her song collaboration with Mamushi.
While the show is now over, it takes place every year, so be sure to tune in next year. For 2024, it was streaming on Paramount +, and is available now to watch again. Being nominated for any award is a big accomplishment, and every artist there should be proud they made it. With that, happy streaming!
