With the big Election Day coming up, new voters anticipate the exciting day where they get to finally get the ‘I voted” stickers.
Though on the ballet is the selection of president, that is not the only important box you need to fill out. Here in Florida, we have important statewide races such as voting on the 26 U.S. representatives and 1 U.S. senator.
For the U.S. Senate race, the four candidates are:
Rick Scott, the Republican Party candidate
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democratic Party candidate
Feena Bonoan, the Libertarian Party candidate
Ben Everidege, Unaffiliated candidate
Tuan “TQ” Nguyen, Unaffiliated candidate
Florida Supreme Court:
This year, Florida voters will decide whether Renata Francis and Meredith Sasso return to the Florida’ Supreme Court as appointed justices for another term. For this position there is no opponent but it is an important decision on if these two justices will remain.
Florida Amendments (all of these deal with amending our state’s constitution) :
Below is a brief overview on what each amendment proposes but make sure to do further research before deciding which ones to support.
Florida Amendment 1: proposes that school district board members need to be elected in a partisan election.
Florida Amendment 2: proposes amending to preserve forever fishing and hunting.
Florida Amendment 3: proposes the legalization of recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older.
Florida Amendment 4: proposes limiting state’s inference with abortion
Florida Amendment 5: proposes adding a measure to require an annual inflation adjustment to amount of value that is exempted from property tax on current and future homestead exemptions.
Florida Amendment 6: proposes the repeal of arrangement that requires public financing for captains for statewide offices who agree to campaign spending limits.
Before you go vote, make sure to take a look at a sample ballot so there are no surprises on the day of. Early voting as already started so make sure to head on out to the poll sometime before November fifth in order to fulfill you civic duty and participant in paving the future.
