Recently on the Internet there has been a lot of controversy surrounding what is suitable to be posted. The focus is on the way explicit music videos are being uploaded to popular video sharing websites such as YouTube.
One of this year’s most popular songs, “Blurred Lines,” is one of the songs accompanied with an uncensored version of its original video. The uncensored version of the song includes nudity.
Junior Isaiah Wilson said, “ I think it’s demeaning to the models in the videos and offensive to the women watching.”
Things like these videos being uploaded have to be considered from different angles. Although it does not violate any of the site’s regulations, it is still something very inappropriate to be releasing into the public domain on a site where any smart kid with a laptop could have an account.
Sophomore Sabrina DeJesus said, “Anyone can access that video online including children so it’s not appropriate.”
Saying this music video can be considered a form of art implies that other things that can be found on the Internet can be considered art.
The video does contain an 18 year old and above restriction, although it can be viewed by mostly anyone, including children if they do not have parental supervision.
Senior Jordyn Johnson commented, “There are a lot worse things found on the Internet to consider this a bad thing.”
The music video has been taken down once before but was restored on YouTube after complaints that the video was not going against any regulations. This forced the website to allow the video to be re-uploaded for anyone with a registered YouTube account to view at their disposal.
Videos like these being left up for anyone to view can be a very controversial topic. Some say it’s art, while others believe it’s downright inappropriate for anyone with the disposal of a device that could connect to the Internet to view such material.
